MLB Betting Odds
Saturday’s baseball betting market opened Arizona and Burnes at around -180 over Milwaukee and Patrick, with an O/U of 8.5. Early betting action slid that total to 9.
Brewers-Diamondbacks Betting Preview
Milwaukee grabbed the first game of this series Friday night, 7-0. The Brewers got a wonderful seven-inning quality start from veteran Jose Quintana – his first start for his new team – while the bats rapped out 10 hits, icing the W with four runs in the top of the ninth.
Milwaukee won Friday as a +140 dog against Eduardo Rodriguez while the game played under a total of 9 because Arizona couldn’t score any runs.
The Brewers started 0-4 this season; they’re 8-2 since, with series victories over Kansas City, Cincinnati and Colorado.
Arizona opened this season 5-3, with a series victory at the Yankees. They then dropped two of three games at Washington but came home and took two of three from Baltimore.
Last year, the Diamondbacks took four of seven games from Milwaukee. Neither of Saturday’s starting pitchers took part in any of those games.
Saturday’s Pitching Match-Up
Burnes is 0/2 on quality starts this season. In his first start for his new team back on April 1, he gave up four runs and two home runs through 4 1/3 innings against the Yankees, although Arizona won that game 7-5. Then, last Sunday, he gave up four runs and seven hits through five innings of a 5-4 Diamondbacks loss at Washington.
He’s also walked seven guys through 9 1/3 total innings.
Also, the overs are 2-0 with Burnes.
The former Brewer started once against his old team last year for Baltimore, allowing two ER and six hits through five innings of a 6-4 Orioles victory.
Patrick is also 0/2 on quality starts this year but he’s been at least as good as Burnes. In his ML debut back on March 29 he had a bad inning of relief against the Yankees. But in his first career start he pitched 4 2/3 innings of scoreless ball in a 5-0 Milwaukee victory over the Royals. Then last Sunday he held Cincinnati to one run and two hits through 5 2/3 innings of a 8-2 Brewers win.
However, he’s also walked seven through 11 total innings.
This will be Patrick’s first career action against Arizona.
Splits With the Sticks
Milwaukee is batting .254 against right-handed pitching this season, with a .329 team OBP and a .444 team slugging percentage. The Brewers have also scored at least seven runs in five of their last six games.
Last year, we ranked Arizona among the top four line-ups in Baseball against RH pitching. This season, the Diamondbacks are slashing .272/.352/.510 against RH pitching. This line-up is operating at the moment without 2B Ketel Marte, but he’s a much better hitter against LHP than RHP.
The Bullpens
Last year, we rated the Diamondbacks bullpen as in the bottom quarter of the MLB. This year, the Arizona pen has allowed 19 runs and 33 hits through 49 innings, with nine walks against 50 strikeouts.
Last year we rated the Brewers pen among the top five the Majors. Then over the off-season Milwaukee dumped its closer (Williams). This year the Brewers bullpen has allowed 37 ER and 56 hits through 55 innings. However, those numbers are a bit skewed, thanks to that terrible start against the Yankees with the wind blowing out in the Bronx.
MLB Betting Trends
Milwaukee played 69-45 against RH starters last year, and it’s 4-3 vs. righties this season.
Arizona played 61-44 against RH starters last year, and it’s 5-3 in that split this year.
Totals Report
The overs played 48-28 at Chase Field last season.
The overs played 4-3 in Brewers-D’Backs games last season, which averaged almost 12 runs per.
