Two teams playing some good ball as of late meet up when the Reds and Brewers continue a three-game NL Central series Tuesday night in Milwaukee. Lefty Brett Anderson and his 4.99 ERA hit the hill for the home team here against Luis Castillo and his 6.47 ERA for the visitors. How are we playing this game with our free MLB betting pick?

MLB Betting Odds

Tuesday’s baseball betting lines opened Milwaukee and Anderson at around -115 over Cincinnati and Castillo, with an over/under of nine runs. Early betting action then dipped the Brewers to -110 and that total to 8.5.

Reds-Brewers MLB Betting Preview

Cincinnati grabbed the opener of this series Monday night 10-2. The Reds scored one run in the first inning and three in the second to take an early lead, then pulled away with two runs in the seventh and four in the ninth. Cincy won Monday as a +125 underdog on the MLB betting line and the game played over a total of 9.5 thanks to that Reds ninth inning. Over the weekend, the Reds swept three games at home from Colorado. Going back a bit further, Cincinnati is 2-1-1 over its last four series and 11-3 over its previous 14 games. At 33-31 overall, the Reds sit in third place in the NL Central, four games behind the first-place Brewers and Cubs. Cincinnati is also now playing ahead of pace against its season wins over/under of 81.5. Milwaukee, meanwhile, just swept three games from Pittsburgh over the weekend. Going back a bit further, the Brewers are 5-0-2 over their last seven series and 17-5 over their last 22 games. At 38-28 overall, Milwaukee is tied with the Cubs for the lead in the NL Central, four games up on the third-place Reds. The Brewers are also playing ahead of schedule against their wins O/U of 82.5. Milwaukee leads the season series with the Reds four games to three.

Tuesday’s Pitching Match-Up

Lefty Anderson is 1/10 on quality starts this season and 0 for his last seven. Last Wednesday, against this Cincinnati outfit, he gave up five runs – four earned – on five hits and two walks through three innings of a 7-3 Milwaukee loss. And over his last five starts, he’s been tagged for 14 ER and 29 hits through just 19 1/3 innings. The Brewers are 6-4 with Anderson this season, but he can’t claim too much credit for that. Over his last five starts against the Reds, three last year and two already this season, Anderson allowed 11 ER and 22 hits through 23 2/3 innings. Milwaukee played 3-2 in those five games. Castillo is just 2/13 on quality starts this year, but he’s been a little better recently, following a terrible month of May. Last Thursday against these Brewers, he got booked for three runs on just one hit and three walks through 5 2/3 innings of a 7-2 Cincy loss. But that wasn’t his fault; he left the game with a 2-1 lead, only to have the Reds bullpen blow it. And over his last three starts, he’s allowed six ER and eight hits, although also eight walks, through 16 2/3 innings. Cincinnati is just 2-11 with Castillo this season, and unfortunately, that’s about what they should be. Over his last four starts against Milwaukee, two last year, and two already this year, Castillo allowed 10 ER and 15 hits through 23 1/3 innings, with 14 walks and 30 strikeouts. The Reds played 1-3 over those four games.

Splits With the Sticks

The Reds are batting .233 against left-handed pitching this season, with a .313 team OBP and a .414 team slugging percentage. Cincinnati has also scored at least six runs seven times over its last ten games. The Brewers are “slashing,” if you can call it that, .210/.296/.362 against right-handed pitching this season. Numbers like those cause us to rank this lineup among the bottom half-dozen in the Majors in this split. And yet Milwaukee has also scored at least five runs seven times over its last ten games.

The Bullpens

The Reds bullpen owns a 5.66 ERA this season, which ranks dead last in Baseball, along with a 1.43 WHIP and a 2.08 K/BB ratio. Numbers like those lead us to rank this unit among the worst four bullpens in Baseball right now. The Brewers bullpen owns a 4.24 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and a 2.52 K/BB ratio.

MLB Betting Trends

  • The Reds are 17-15 on the road this season.
  • The Brewers are 20-16 at home this season.
  • The Reds are 7-3 against left-handed starters this season.
  • The Brewers are 30-21 against right-handed starters this season.

Totals Report

Overs are 38-23 in Reds games this season. Overs are 32-30 in Brewers games this season. Overs are a combined 14-6 with Anderson and Castillo this season. Overs are 20-13 in games played at American Family Field this season. Overs are 4-2-1 in Reds-Brewers games this season.

Reds at Brewers Prediction 6/15/21

We’re not sure who’s going to win this game, and we don’t care because our pick is on the total. Neither of these starting pitchers deserves a betting recommendation, and both lineups are scoring runs recently. Plus, that Cincinnati bullpen is awfully generous. We like the over 8.5 runs on this game for our free MLB pick for Tuesday.
